IMPORTANT GEORGIAN Silver LARGE SUGAR BOWL 1795 Hallmarked London Sterling NR
8 troy oz - Swingover Handle - London: John Israel

This is a really stunning GEORGIAN LARGE solid sterling silversugar bowl or sugar basket or cream pailwhich was made in London, England in 1795 by the illustrious silversmith,John Israel at his Berry Street workshops. It has a gorgeous oval shape and is raised on an oval pedestal base. It has a gorgeous plain sides with reeded rims and an elegantswing over handle. It is engraved to the sides with lovely decoration and is engraved with ACA to one cartouche. It measures4 5/8\" deep by 6 1/2\" wide and stands 4 5/8\" high (7 1/4\" to the top of the handle). It is very substantial - this bowl weighs236.6 grams-well over 7 1/2troy oz.

It is in very good condition for its age with a little less than the usual surface scratching but only a few minor dings and dents, very little distortion and, unusually, NO compression to the base - see photographs, with NO repairs - SUPERB - just thinning to the erased cartouches. This beautiful piece is hallmarked underneath the base with JI, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark), crowned leopard head, u, George III duty markshowing that it was hallmarked in London in 1795. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. This is a really super quality GEORGIAN piece with a fantastic design - in superb condition afteralmost 220years!!!
