Description A 1980s-vintage four piece sterling silver tea & coffee set, designed by Ilonka Karasz (Hungarian-American, 1896-1981).This is a well-known, iconic Art Deco-era design by Karasz, featured in several exhibitions of American Modernism. It was originally produced in the late 1920s as silverplate-on-nickel silver by Paye & Baker.This is an exact reproduction of those designs, created for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the late 1980s.
There were limited quantities produced of the silverplated version. This is the solid sterling silver version, of which perhaps only a handful were made. Look around online, you probably can\'t find another one.The pieces have scalloped/fluted sides which go all the way to the very bottom edge. Flat disc lids exactly cover the interior rims, each adorned with cylindrical wood finial, topped off with a silver cap. Streamlined silver bars connect to longer wood cylinders for the handles. Quality of the silver work is quite fine. The wooden pieces have a gloss finish.The core body of each piece is approximately 4\" in diameter. Maximum dimensions:
- Coffee pot 7\" tall by 6-1/4\" wide
- Teapot 5\" tall by 6-1/4\" wide
- Creamer 2-5/8\" tall by 6-1/4\" wide
- Covered sugar bowl 3-3/4\" tall by 6-1/2\" wideEACH piece is marked \"(c)1988 MMA - Made in Italy - 925\".
The coffee pot and teapot are also marked with an Italian silver guarantee mark.

Condition is SUPERB and as close to like new as you could hope. NO dents of any size, NO scratches or other abrasions. Micro-polishing lines if you want to be crazy picky. It retains its gloss polished finish on the exterior, and matte finish on the interiors. It looks even better in person.
This set comes from an estate collection, in which it sat proudly for almost 30 years.An absolutely fabulous set!
