This smaller sized (4 X 7 in.), 200 page hardcover is essentially a course in Egyptology, as it would have been known in the early 19th century, with chapters on the land and the people of Egypt, its political constitution, agriculture, brick-making, glass-blowing and carpentry; its architecture, ship-building, and military affairs; its musical instruments and private life; etc. The author attempts to tie in biblical references, especially regarding the customs of the Israelites as described in the Old Testament.
Well illustrated throughout. 8 pages of ads in the very back.
Good, not very good, condition. Spine ends are chipped, board corners are bumped and rubbed, and there\'s some fading and staining on the boards. The front hinge was broken and carefully repaired, with good results (not quite as seamless as it appears in the pic above though). Inside, there\'s occasional foxing, but pages are unmarked. The book is complete and otherwise securely bound.
An interesting look at the Old Testament, from the perspective of Egyptian history.
