GEORGE H. HAY (SCOTTISH, 1831-1913) THE ARCHERS. Oil on canvas, signed \"G. Hay\" LL Canvas: 21\" x 16\". The outer dimensions of the original gilt frame are 22.5\" x 27\". This is a beautiful and unusual work from this important Scottish artist.

Acquired at sale at Phillips (London) on Dec 12, 1995 for over $5500, sale record provided.

ConditionOverall, the piece presents beautifully. The painting has been professionally restored. The canvas sustains a medium layer of varnish andlight craquelure throughout. In the upper left quadrant, there area few minor nicks to the canvas with pigment loss. These have been restored with overpainting. Along the entire right hand border, there has been restoration, due to rubbing and pigment loss. In the lower right quadrant, there area fewchips of pigment missing,which have been professionally restoredwith the exception of one small chip as seen in the last photo towards the bottom of the piece.
