A lady rests on a yellow summer carpet, leaning against a burgundy bolster and holding a vina over her shoulder. To keep cool, she wears a delicate transparent peshwaz with a matching dupatta and a fine pair of embroidered goldpajamas. She also has a small piece of cloth to keep the sweat and flies at bay. This is a private moment that the artist has envisioned here. An air of intimacy is apparent from the large red velvet curtain that has been pulled back to reveal these typically private quarters. The mauve background andfantastically imagined tree tell us that this is a product of the Deccan (Southern) Plateau where artist of the time were practicing a unique mixture of Mughal, Persian, and Hindu painting styles.
