INDIAN SILVER TRAY; BOMBAY HUNTING SCENES 45 DISTINCT FIGURES HAND CARVED

This is a rare Indian ilver hunting scene tea tray.

From the Bombay region of Indian.

Renowned for hunting motif.

Classic circular scallop rim form.

Adorned with a continuous jungle hunting scene. All the figures distinct, no repeats.

Illustrating the hand crafted original of this one of a kind tray.

Hunters with rifle, bow, sword and dagger. On foot, behind tall grass and upon galloping horses or elephant.

In one scene, a lion is devouring a fallen hunter, as another comes with dagger and a third with spear. A tiger atop antelope.

A hunter lunges with sword at a charging lion.

The figures carved in exceptionally high relief. In some areas over 1/4 inch from the satin surface.

The center with a second frieze. Two hunting elephants with spear and riflemen. One elephant raises a lion off the ground using his trunk. A fallen hunter on the ground with beast atop him.

The Bombay hunting tray is 16 3/4 inches and weighs 32 standard ounces.

Unsigned. We guarantee solid silver, not silver plate.

In fine condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina throughout. The brilliantly carved hunt scenes retain their original crisp, sharp detail. Stands firmly on table. Scattered tiny splits along lower edges of some of figures (must hold to light to see most) and small restoration to back (see images).
