DESCRIPTION:
An Edwardian solid ebony wood backed pair of hairbrushes and two clothes brushes, one with soft and the other with firm bristles. All items have a silver \'M\' initial, not hallmarked but tests sterling quality. The hairbrushes measures 9.5 inches long, 2.25 inches wide, all of the items are stamped ebony.
This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s, when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since.
CONDITION:
There is a tiny section of silver scrollwork missing from one of the hairbrush monograms, otherwise the silver monograms are in perfect condition with no missing fixing pins. The ebony is highly polished and in perfect condition with no chips or cracks. The hairbrushes have loss but otherwise the bristles are clean and firm and in excellent condition.
