Handmade hatchet Handle Blackthorn Walking Staff. The length is aprox. 55 1/2 inches long. The handle is the junction in the tree and hooks around into a shillelagh ball handle. It is aprox. 1 inch in diameter, The character is very nice in the bumps and bow running up the stick. This is a sheep herder type bowed staff which is strong and flexible when swung like a club. All the sticks are cut during the winter and dried for atleast a year and then stained to its natural color of purplish, mahogony brown and finished to a high degree. An irish coin is mounted to the tip. These are the original sticks with a coin mounted properly into the ferrule. A real heirloom from Emerald Isle Walking Sticks There are copies of my sticks being sold from Northern Ireland, UK, which copy the coin in the tip, and even my description wording, beware that they may not have been dried properly over a year and may bend back just as crooked as they were when they were cut from the tree. The length of a walking stick is measured from the floor to the wrist but I prefer it to be a bit longer. The sale is for the stick in the picture and the pictures are usually taken before the final sanding and coat of varnish is applied revealing a marvleing finish. All the blemishes are filled in and smoothed out to a nice smooth finish. Shipping takes between 14 to 28 days and usually costs more then I charge.
