DESCRIPTION: - Stereoview #250 by Alexander Gardner. Title: Members of a South Carolina Regiment Laid Out for Burial. According to his account of research activities into the Gardner Rose Farm images, William Frassanito found this image to be the most difficult for him to finally locate. See pages 347 – 350 in his book: Early Photography at Gettysburg (cprt 1995, ISBN-0-939631-86-5).

MAKER: - Negative by Alexander Gardner – from Gardner’s gallery, Corner of 7th and D Streets Washington DC

CONDITION: - See photos. Has marks, some foxing, and age soiling. Card is crisp and sturdy. Has a light manuscript title along the left edge. As you can see, the original negatives lost some emulsion prior to printing. You can compare this emulsion loss with the example on page 348 of the Frassanito’s book Early Photography at Gettysburg by William Frassanito (cprt 1995, ISBN-0-939631-86-5). The image example he used in his book came from a museum collection and appears to have suffered a different pattern of emulsion loss. Was that a different or later use of the negative?
