JEANHARLOW, Original Vintage Photo

About thephoto:

For purchase is a black andwhite glossy photo of actress Jean Harlow.

Harlow became one of thebiggest movie stars in the world by the late 1930s. She was nicknamed the“Platinum Blonde” and the “Blonde Bombshell“. The American Film Institute hasranked Jean Harlow as one of the greatest movie stars.

Authenticityof the Photo:

My late,Great Uncle-Albert was a huge fan of the movies right up to his death. JeanHarlow was his favorite star. He was born in 1918 in Rhode Island and passedaway in 1976 at the age of 58.

I believe Albert’s collection of Jean Harlow photos camefrom 2 sources in the 1950s since the photos were stored along with 2 largeenvelopes from the RKO Albee Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island and IrvingKlaw in New York City.

1.)Envelope#1: was addressed to “Mr. David Levin, Mgr., RKO Albee Theatre, 320Westminister St., Providence, R.I. 3”. The envelope addressed to Mr. Levin came from “RKORADIO PICTURES, INC., RKO Building in Radio City, 1270 Avenue of the Americas,New York, 20, N.Y.” Since Albert was a frequent RKO Albee patron, he may havegotten to know Mr. Levin who may have given Albert part of his Harlow collection thatwas sent to him from the studio. Mr. Levin was the RKO Albee’s manager in the1950s. Mr. Levin also may have found the photos in the RKO Albee’s office files by previous management. When the RKO Albee was demolished in the 1970s, clipping books, managers’ report books, scrapbooks, business records, cash books, etc. were found in the basement and were saved. They are now part of the University of Iowa Special Collections (open for research). While I have no information that any movie stills or movie star photos items were found in the basement during the demolition, the RKO Albee has become part of Providence’s history having gone from vaudeville to a movie house.

2.)Envelope#2: was addressed to Albert with a return address of “Irving Klaw, 212 East 14thStreet, New York 3, N.Y.” Albert’s address on the envelope was the home thathe lived in during the 1950s. My recent research indicates that Mr. Klaw\'s business sold movie star photos to consumers.

See photos of these envelopes in this listing but THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THE SALE of this photo.

Albert’snephew Lawrence inherited the collection of photos and 2 envelopes in 1976. He stored them awaysince his Uncle’s death. He has asked that this photo be placed on forsale. Lawrence has stored this photo and the others away in a smoke free, dryEnvironment for the past 37 years.
