The subject of this review isan interesting specimen of the men’s timepiece from the WWII period. It was made by the Germany Watch Company of JUNGHANS, dating to ca 1930-40’s. In 1930-1940\'s, many Swiss manufacturerssupplied watches mainly for military purposes and this specimen is executed ina military style. Similar watcheswere worn by seamen and officers of submarines of the German Navy.
This military watch with amanual wind features a new black metal dial with contrast easily readable Arabic figures of a military style, a60 minute checkered outer track border, and luminescentMercedes hands. The dial is signed \'U-Boot / 47\' (the marking and thenumber of the submarine). On the dial there is also the image of submarine. The newdial on this watch has been professionally updated and now is in excellentcondition.
This military model of watchhas a four-piece, double hinged case that was made especially for such military watch toprotect the mechanism from dust and debris and to provide an extra layer ofprotection from shock or moisture. The existence of an inner dust cover lid isa good sign of a quality watch.
The winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly. The hands set is operated by a settinglever in the movement, which function is activated by a pusher. You press thelittle button near the crown IN and then move the crown to set the hands,releasing the button once you’re finished. It’s easy, so don’t worry aboutgetting the hang of it!
Thismechanical watch has an original movement that is branded. On the movement thereis a company logo in the form of theeight-pointed star and letter\"J\" in it and the inscription ’JUNGHANS’. The branded originalmovement of the caliber 38 is inan excellent status which was very well saved, considering age of this watch.
This military watch was altered from pocket to wristwatch. Thewatch is fitted on a new 20 mm black genuinehigh-quality leather strap with chrome steel buckle. The beautiful strapthat is stitched by white threads is military style and goes very well withthis wonderful watch.

HISTORY: Gebr Junghans Uhrenfabrik was established by ErhardJunghans brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler in 1861 in the Black Forest, making parts for watch production. Theprecision of Junghans work quickly became synonymous with outstanding qualityof manufacturing, and the foundation was laid for a complete watchmakingenterprise. The Junghans brand was established in 1866.
AfterErhard\'s death in 1870, the company was run by his sons Arthur and Erhard Jr.
Followingthe registration as early as 1877 of the first factory trademark, \"eaglewith Flag\", the JUNGHANS trademark, a clock cogwheel fashioned into aneight-pointed star, became the brand symbol in 1890.
In1903 JUNGHANS was the largest clock-maker in the world. They were well-knownfor producing a wide variety of watches.
Productionof wristwatches begins in 1927. The company further expanded over years mergingwith other well-known German clockmakers including Lenzkirch, Thomas Haller andGustav Becker.
Afterwar and dismantling, the end of the Black Forestclockmaker seemed to have come. But under great-grandson Helmuth Junghans thework of reconstruction was begun.
Today,this factory, largest in Germany,is owned by Diehl.
