RARE 1971 1st PRINTING TREASURY BOOK
This is an sale for the hard-to-find first printing ofthe “King” Kirby Portfolio, dated 1971. This 11\' x 14\" treasury-sized portfolio also goesby the name Kirby Unleashed. This copy is in very fine-plus condition, with white pages and minimal scuffing along a few of the cover edges (see photos).
The King Kirby Portfolio is a collection of works of art by theartist Jack Kirby, which was published by Communications Unlimited. The book features a gorgeous wraparound cover. Included inside the book is an amazing range of work spanning Jack Kirby\'s whole career, from his earliest days at Marvel to the New Gods at DC Comics.
We find pages of Jack Kirby’s earliest work, for suchdiverse publishers as: Max Fleischer Studio and New Yorker Magazine, well Jackhad submitted the art and was rejected!But you get to see examples of a young Kirby, at only fourteen (14)years of age. Some publishededitorial cartoons and examples of early comic strips that were published innewspapers across the country.
Then we get to see some early comic book work, for example Captain America, Bucky and Red Skull ,which was done while he was working at Atlas Comics, prior to it becomingMarvel Comics.
All in all, a very nice package that sold for only four dollars backin 1971. Original copies of this book are not easy to find for sale nowadays. This was one of the first portfolios sold back in the day,before there was a great proliferation of companies putting out portfolios withfeaturing art from many and diverse artist.This fantastic issue will be a perfect addition to any collection of Jack Kirby\'s amazing comics. The book will be securely sealed with an acid-free backing board and packaged within a sturdy box.
