James Shoolbred and Companywas a draperand later adepartment store, located onTottenhamCourt Road, London.

In the 1820’s James Shoolbred started his company in London. James Shoolbred & Co sold textiles, carpets and other items for interior decorating. In the 1870’s the company was designing and producing original, high-quality furniture, inspired by the aesthetic qualities of E.W. Godwin’s architecture. The furniture was sold in-store and also featured in the James Shoolbred & Co catalogue, which was circulated outside of London. Within another decade the company expanded and moved into a larger location in London, becoming one of the first department stores. James Shoolbred furniture was always displayed and photographed alongside the textiles, carpets and lamps that the company also sold, creating an example interior design for customers to view. Despite James Shoolbred & Co’s popularity and market presence, the company struggled after the market crash of 1929 and closed for good in 1931.

On offer to sell ,1.Printed Catalog of James Shoolbred & Co, a company highly respected among admirers of Aesthetic Movement furniture in Preston and Cumbria.2.Established in the 1820s, James Shoolbred’s Tottenham Court Road company began life as a drapers. It began supplying textiles to the furniture trade, and expanded into the stores either side, branching into interior design. By the 1870s, the company was designing and manufacturing its own furniture.3.Many of the Edwardian and Victorian dining chairs and antique cabinets in prestonshowrooms are “in the style of” James Shoolbred & Co.4.Their catalogues were so detailed they acted as virtual pattern books, with furniture makers across the world copying their designs to prove they were abreast of London fashion. Today, these catalogues are a valuable research tool for antiques historians in Preston, who can see how antique desks, for example, adapted to various Revival movements as they appeared.

Not sure about its original binding. This volume has black colour textile hardcover binding.
Condition /Damages ;
This volume is well preserved and stored by previous but has few issues relating to its condition.Its good readable/ good flow& has appealing images with valuable informations & strict norms to antique collector, I am offering this volume under ACCEPTABLE CONDITION.1. This volume does not have original binding.2. Its main cover and front pages are missing. This volume starts from page no. 15.To best of me all inside pages are available but this volume has 568 pages in total, there may exception.3. few pages are torn/ damaged and there are few pages which has refixed & joined with the adhesive tap.4. Being used and part of very early era, Made of paper- there are stains/ spots especially on downside edges and dirty look .5. It appears that during its binding upper margin/lower margin from edge has cut off but it does not affect the quality of images.6. Apart from this, there may be minimal impurities but does not damage the quality of this volume in real sense.
