Stunning Japanesestoneware sake bottle withdeep burgundydripping glaze. The sides depict blossoming trees and grasses upon a crackled cream base. Vibrant copper oxide glaze was heavily applied to the upper portion of the bottle, and as it dripped down the sides took on fabulous shades of vibrant red, rich merlot, and emerald green. Heavily potted, and probably used in the tokonoma alcoveas a vase forthe tea ceremony.Magnificent presence, exhibiting a wonderfuljuxtaposition of the bold andsubtle. It measures approximately10 1/8\" tall and is in excellent antique condition. Signed on the underside, incised Shigaraki, Anzan, with an impressed seal. Amarvelous example of Japanese pottery and expression, and an exquisite centerpiece for the discriminating collector ofJapanese antiques and tea ceremony accoutrements.
