You are offerding on a VERY Rare Japanese WW2 Aircraft engine built by theShoda Aircraft Company during December 1944.This engineis about160 cid / 2.620 Liters and hasclose to50 Horsepower. Its an inline 4 Cylinder engine, similar as was used in a Kokusai Ki86, just a smaller version. That would match the story both of the previous owners always told me. They both mentioned that this engine was used in some type of Spy Glider or Trainer Airplane, like a Ki86. If you look at the serial number, which is stamped in all engine parts, including Crankshaft main caps, water pump, etc. it is 1337. That means there were at least 1337engines like it built. But if you search for Shoda Aircraft engine or anythingclose to it, there is very little, which can be found on the net. All I was able to find is a Shoda-Hikoki / Shoda-Ken No1 experimental V12 Supercharged engine and a few mentionings of other smaller types. I have owned this engine for about 15 years. The friend who sold it to me had owned it since the late 1960\'s. The fellow who sold it to him, had owned it since the late 1940\'s.The history of this Japanese WW2 Aircraft engine is known, back toalmost WW2.But the rest is still a Mystery. Here is a pretty accurate Translation of the Engine Tag:Type 96 Daisousenki Model 4 Specifications ChartEngine Type: Water Cooled 4 Cylinder 4 Cycle Gas EngineCylinder Size: Bore 87 MM Stroke 110 MMCompression Ratio: 5.3Standard RPM P/Min 1700 Standard HP 37Max RPM P/Min 2400 Max HP 48Standard Fuel Efficiency P/h P/HP 300gFiring Order 1-2-4-3Ignition Timing Slow Speed BTDC 5 Degr.Ignition Timing High Speed 35 Degr.Engine Starting Ignition Timing BTDC 10 Degr.Tappet AdjustmentTappet Clearance In 0.3 MM Exh 0.3 MMOpening Intake Valve BTDC 10 Degr.Opening Exhaust Valve BBDC 45 Degr.
