This is an original oil painting on masonite board. The subject matter is a full-length portrait of a female flamenco dancer in motion.  The palette is  bright red and black over muted olive greens and dark pinks.

This painting is 40 inches high by 22 inches wide. It frames a young female flamenco dancer in motion. She is facing perpendicular to the viewer. Her long red flamenco skirt is flying around her hips, with the black facing material in full view, the chaotic motion of a moment caught. Her bare legs and red high heeled shoes are in full view under the skirt's movement, the ball of her front foot hitting the floor. Her elbow is thrust behind her, her chin whipped to the front, her long dark hair falling around her shoulders.

The work is in pristine condition and signed by the  artist. The work includes the original frame as  shown.

About the Artist:

Jerry De La Cruz (b 1948, Denver, CO) was recently the subject of a museum-wide retrospective of his works at the Museo de las Americas in Denver, CO. He is listed among the three dozen most influential regional artists of the twentieth century      by the Denver Post from a survey of regional curators. At the first International Latino Art sale held in Phoenix,  AZ, De La Cruz proved the best selling artist of the sale and drew the highest sale price for a single work.  The Denver Art Museum\'s first purchase of a living Hispanic\'s work for its permanent collection was a De La Cruz. Years later, he was the only artist  considered when that same museum wanted to commission a contemporary digital work commemorating the opening of its new Libeskind Building.  De La Cruz was the recipient of back-to-back artist in residency grants from Colorado in his early career and received as well their very last painting  fellowship in 2000. Other honors include Best Art Event of the Year by Westword Magazine and appointment to Denver’s Commission on Arts  and Culture. De La Cruz currently splits his time between his studio in the Santa Fe District in Denver, Colorado and his new studio in the Wynwood District of Miami, Florida.
