At the outbreak of World War II, about 5,000 Jews lived in Sarnok - almost half its population. The Germans occupied Snock on 9 September 1939. They began to kidnap Jews for forced labor, imposed a night curfew on them, and forbade them to buy food in the city market. The Germans also torched synagogues.
On September 5, 1942, the order to expel the Jews from Sanok was issued. Those who were caught in hiding were murdered in the city\'s cemetery. Most of the Jews were deported to the Zaslaw camp near the city, where Jews from the entire district were concentrated, and from there they were deported on several transports to the Belzec extermination camp.
After the deportation, about 1,500 Jews remained in the city; About 300 of them remained in the ghetto, and the others were held in camp conditions near the workplaces. In January 1943, all the Jews who worked in the city were concentrated in the ghetto. In February the ghetto was liquidated and its inhabitants deported to the Zaslav camp, and from there to Belzec.for condition watch photos
