Excellent Bronze Bust of President Franklin Delano Rooseveltby American Sculptor Jo Davidson (1883-1952)This handsome sculpture captures both the seriousnessand kindness that seemed to be ever-present on the face of the32nd president of the United States.
The bust is made of spelter bronze. Spelteris a zinc material, usually mixed with lead.After being kept outside in my sculpture gardenit took on a verdigris patina (which I subsequently removed). If you\'dlike to re-capture that patina, just leave it outside andexposed to weather.
The work in total is 10\" tallThe head itself is approximately 6\" tallThe circumference of the head is 12\"
It is signed in two places - on the square baseand on the back of the head. The signature reads,\"Jo Davidson Wash. 1934\"Davidson specialized in realistic portrait busts. He made scoresof monuments many of whichare now on display in parks across theUnited States.In 2006, the SmithsonianNational PortraitGallery opened a permanent exhibit of Davidson\'s works.
