Leather bound in dark blueish green morrocan leather with gold/gilt edge\"THE WHITE HOUSE\" and accented in gold/gilt(on frontand back) and greenish/blue marbled inside boards being a true first edition and very first printing of the \"THE WHITE HOUSE\" from 1962 limited to 100 copies and the official raised embossed Seal of the Presidentenclosure card tipped onto a special limitation page as seen that when opened also containsa handsomely engraved gift card from the President and First lady.
This limited edition of 100 copies was printed and specifically bound at the request of President John F. Kennedy to be his executive Christmas gift for December of 1962 for his immediate family and cabinet at the White House.
The book itself is in very good shape, tightly boundwith clean internal pages and isa lavishly illustrated history of the The White House with room-by-room descriptions, published by the White House Historical Association in 1962 here in Washington, DC under the direction of FirstLady Jacqueline Kennedy. Book is further presentedin a exquisite blueish green protection slip cover with greenish blue marbled boards and and finally handsomelyenclosed in a superb blueish green gold / gilt leather trim (presentation box is superbly edgemarked THE WHITE HOUSE - December 25, 1962 in gold/gilt on spine ) presentation box that both the leather bound book and custom/special slip coverboth slide into..
Its simply amazing looking and worthy of the type of Presidential Christmas gifts given to family members by JFK and Jackie !
Book is inscribed all in Jacqueline Kennedy\'s hand in blue ballpoint ink: \"For Miche and Cathy with our love ~ Jackie ~ December 25, 1962\" and also personally hand signed in bold fountain pen ink , \"John Kennedy\" . This copy is number 98 of the true first 100 copies printed as indicated on the limitation page as well.
Book waspresented/gifted from President Kennedy as a special Christmas present to Miche Bouvier and his wife Cathy. Miche Bouvier is a close relative of Jackie Kennedy establishingimpeccible association, authenticity, and provenance.
I have personallyowned 5 copiesof the much more common \"red leather \" copies of the THE WHITE HOUSE guide given out in 1962 by the President and First Lady to some excutive staff in presumably two seperate runs of 75 copies and each of those copies were identified and number as a copy \"a\" orcopy\"b\" representing a second and likely third running/printing of this historic book.
There is little doubt .. the \"original\" \"FIRST\" run of this book as intended for Christmastime, 1962 and as indicated withno \"a\" or \"b\" respresentation on the limitation number and representswhat I believe to be the first 100 copies printed for the President obviously with thosesigned copies being given only to the Kennedy and/or Bouvier family members and maybe some of JFK\'s cabinet..
The later more common reprinted\"red edition\" copies designated withnumbers \"a\" or \"b\" from Christmas of 1962 have appeared at sale and whilethey are far more common ... they still bring well over $13,500-15,000 in actual sale sales (with one actual sale one as recent as 2 weeks ago selling for $15,000) and when a signed red copy is found thru a rare bookdealer, the asking price is upwards of $40,000 or more...
My main point here is .. this is the most desirebable printing of this historic and last \"official\" White House Christmas gift that President Kennedy ever gave out and represents the rarest of those few gifts he did give out and washis last official Christmas gift as President.... I am quite confident that when you see this impressive giftyourself inperson, you will bedelighted.. its that niceand of the quality worthy of its initial presentationto Jackie\'s immediate family ! I amequally certain you willnot find another such original example ever offered by any dealer and should one even surface again in the future, I can imagine the price tag would be well over $50,000 or more asthis version isthat rare and desireable !
