We are pleased to offer this c1840 John C. Moore grotesque water pitcher.

First listed 1832.

By 1840s he crafting silver for Tiffanys. Later joined Tiffany running their entire silver operations.

Made gold ornamentation for the E.K. Collins service, from California gold (rush) gold. Set exhibited at the London Crystal Palace in 1851.

In unique hexagonal fluted pear shape.

Acanthus cap shaped oval medallion. Alternating with flower and oval medallion. United by shell and floral and cascading bead.

Boldly fashioned grotesque mask spout. The bearded figure with eyes closed. Rare.

Bead center strap work double scroll handle.

Period engraved Gothic \"Hattie\" likely for the original owner.

This rare c1840 John C. Moore grotesque water pitcher is 9 1/2 inches tall and weighs 37 standard ounces.

Hallmarked as shown.

In excellent condition. Rich lusterous silver patina throughout. The shell and floral and grotesque mask spout retain most all their detail. Stands firm on table. Minor wear.
