We also offer yearly Spiritual Expeditions to destinations whose cultures have a rich tradition in earth-based spirituality, such as the Amazon, Mt. Salkantay and Chile. In these expeditions, we meet medicine men and women, who are the source of our teachings and practices. These are not mere vacations or “sight-seeing” tours, but an immersion in the teachings of the shamans, bringing us to a deeper level on our spiritual/healing journey.
In 2011, we began to offer classes, retreats and private intensives based on the book Power Up Your Brain: The Neuroscience of Enlightenment, co-authored by Dr. Alberto Villoldo and Dr. David Perlmutter. The Power Up Your Brain work focuses more on steps we can take to support ourselves physically while we incorporate the energetic work into our lives. It also focuses on the true science behind our energy medicine practices. And, we also have begun development of our Four Winds Light Body Clinic, in which master practitioners in energy medicine, partnered with cutting-edge Western doctors, provide clinical services.

HistoryNative American Shamans have practiced energy medicine for thousands of years. Alberto Villoldo Ph.D., a medical anthropologist and psychologist, founded The Four Winds Society & The Light Body School after spending more than 30 years in the high Andes and the Amazon, training with master shamans. Dr. Villoldo subsequently established The Four Winds, and began certifying faculty members in the instruction and experiential learning of the modern day shaman. Now, the Four Winds curriculum is taught on five primary campuses around the world, with a world-renowned Four Winds faculty and staff.The Four Winds Shamanic PathThe shamans we work with are from the Andes and the Amazon. They are known as the “Laika”. In the 1500s when conquistador Franscisco Pizzaro arrived in the new world he was able to bring down the Aztec and Inka empires with fewer than 400 men, equipped with guns, steel, horses…. And germs. The Liaka fled to the mountains, where they kept the wisdom teaching safely hidden.
In 1950, a group of Laika from high in the Andes traveled to an annual gathering of shamans that occurred at the foot of one of the holy mountains. The local natives looked at the ponchos the Laika were wearing and instantly recognized the marking of the high shaman priests. They realized that this was group of medicine men and women thought to have vanished after the time of the conquest.
Their coming down from the high mountains they say, had been foretold in their prophecies. “We have been the keepers of a body of processes, or rites, that usher in who we are becoming as a people, as a planet. These processes are for the entire world, said Don Manuel one of the Laika elders.Inka Shamanism and Dr. VilloldoDr. Alberto Villoldo studied with a number of the Laika elders to distill the essence of their healing practices of energy medicine. He trained with the jungle medicine people and traveled and collected stories and healing practices from the Nazca region to Lake Titcaca, the Sea on Top of the World, which legends say the Inka were born.
Working with Don Antonio Alberto reconstructed the many threads of the Laika healing traditions to create a set of sacred technologies that transform the body, heal the soul, and can change the way we live and the way we die.
