This is a magnificent yad. \"Yad\" is the Hebrew word that means \"hand\". The yad is traditionally used as a pointer when the torah scroll is being read in the synagogue. This one was found in an antiques shop, and I have no way of knowing its origin. Expert opinions about it vary greatly, so I\'ll leave it for you to investigate. It is sterling silver, confirmed by a jeweler who replaced the pin in the hinge. It is unusual, in that it has a spice holder in the hinged top, and the spherical shape in the middle is a rattle. It measures 16\" from tip to tip. I have not been able to find any hallmarks. There are a few very small dents, but no other damage. Iwill consider reasonable offers.
