I have only seen this set twice and I own both of them.
Prior to 1914 just about all high-end sculptural artwork was solid bronze. About that time a company called Kathodian Bronze Works began manufacturing small sculptural artwork such as bookends (back then they were called “book rocks”) and statuary using a process imported from Europe around the turn of the century known as electroplating or electroforming . Kathodian Bronze advertised that they were bringing high-end sculptural work to the middle class for about 10% of the price of high-end bronze foundry work. These bronze and copper-plated sculptural artworks were curtailed during WW1 when the focus shifted from bookends to bullets.
