Killer 1/2 Plate Civil War Tintype - 3 Ruffian Soldiers, Confederate? Guerrilla?:
$1650.00

Killer half plate Civil War tintype of three ruffian soldiers. Were they Union, Confederate, or back woods guerrilla? I\'ve pondered this image. My first thought was Confederate due to the upside down US buckle and shirts that appear to be made of homespun butternut cloth and wood buttons. They may however be some sort of contractor variant shirt used by Federals. I\'ve heard the upside down US buckle can be interpreted as a Confederate statement, or simply a careless mistake. In any case, I\'ll have to let buyers be the judge. Regardless, this is a powerfully compelling Civil War image in half plate size.
Image Type: Tintype
Size: Half Plate
Condition: Very lightly wiped with rubbing along the perimeter, otherwise nice with excellent contrast and tone.
Housing:Rare union case titled \"The Bowl of Fruit,\" Krainik No. 13. There is light surface wear and soil with a few minor chips and multiple intact cracks or stress fractures, one of which was glued to prevent loss. Case closes nearly square but doesn\'t latch and the hinges are a bit loose. Finally a lightly worn ruby velvet plush.
