Very rare size measuring 4\" long & 7/8\" wide Very heavy weighing over 1 ounce! 32.1 gramsRemarkable condition with no dents, dings or other issues.
I am unsure of the what the makers mark stands for on this piece. The design looks like Gorham but I a have never been an expert on the
makers. I simply collected based on what looked pretty to me. If someone has knowledge of who this makers mark belongs to, I would appreciate any information.
Marked \"Sterling 1580\" \"Pat 1873\" & makers mark of which I can only read the first letter \"W\" (see last photo) Beaded Circle and swag design. The top screws off for filling. Attached to a silver chain & Pin which would be attached to shirt or bodice. Vinaigrettes filled with sponge soaked aromatic vinegar were carried by both sexes and sniffed at constantly when in public places as a antidote to possible infections or to kill the unpleasant odors of the 18th century streets. By the middle of the 19th century the aromatic vinegar was giving way to a blend of smelling salt and the vinaigrette was being used by ladies to ward off \"attacks of vapors\"
