A finely detailed and well proportioned Roman bronze zoomorphic phalera applique, circular in form, with a lion\'s head in high relief with strong features, gazing straight, the eyebrows furrowed, with open mouth, the radiating mane with finely incised details.

In Roman mythology the lion was a symbol of power and strength, of courage and leadership.

Measures5.2 cm in diameter and 2.5 cm depth. Weight 41.9 gm.

Beautiful, rare and inextremely fine condition except for small section missing.

Comes complete with its own customdisplay stand as pictured.
