Almost 10 feet long when unfolded completely

Superb JapaneseTosa schoolsix panel folding screen, representing the epitome of the Shogun era aesthetic. Depictinga magnificent variety of birds and flowers, a traditional subjectfor whichthe Tosa school was famous.An exceptionallyfine quality work of art, dating to thelate 1700s or early 1800s, the age of the Shogun and Samurai. Exhibiting sublime balance and harmony of composition, masterful minute brushwork, and stunning coloration. With finely rendered individual feathers, twisting leaves, and vibrant blossoms, all revealing themselves gently the longer one views the screen. Graceful white cranes wander among bamboo fronds, a blue kingfisher rests upon a lotus pod, a long tailed pheasant alights on a branch of blossoming cherry. Delicate yet strong, with bold brushstrokes depicting gnarled branches and garden boulders, below which gentle waters ripple. Too much to list, see photos for all of the tasteful artistry. Rendered in ink and pigment on paper, and mounted with a silk border and lacquered wooden frame. The line work is elegant and precise, the coloration sublime, and the shading exquisite, incharacteristic Tosa style. Combining brilliant use of imagery and open space, this is truly a work of great harmony.Measuring approximately 51.25\" high and 118\" in length, and in beautiful display condition, bearing scattered surface wear commensurate with ageasis usuallyfound onantique screens.We note age related scuffs and minor soiling which can be seen with the zoom feature, nothing that takes away from the overall taste and elegance of the piece. Fine qualityTosa school screensrarely come on the open market, as most are held by museums. A rare treasure, and an exquisite centerpiece for the discriminating collector of fine Japanese antiques.
