A quality large Ancient Greek South Italian \'ball\' pyxis c. 4th century BC. Decorated in red figure with two \'ladies of fashion\' between palmettes. The base decorated with laurel leaves. The ball pyxis is a scarcer form than the typical squat lekanis, especially larger examples such as this.
18.5 cms high, 14.3cms across the rim.
Intact apart from a minor chip to the base and one to the inside rim of the top cover. All original painting in red, black, white and yellow ochre. No overpainting, repair or restoration.
