LARGE VINTAGE MID CENTURY MARTZ MARSHALL CERAMIC POTTERY INCISED LAMP :

For your consideration is alarge scale vintage, mid century ceramiclamp by the renownedMartz studio. The lamp is made up of two ceramic pieces, one on top of theother, and eachis a creamy off-white with the iconic Martz sgraffito incisions in a swirled pattern (see pictures 2 and 12 for detail).

The lamp has abrass-toned harp and socketportion (picture 11). There is no finial or shade. Finials can be purchased here on . The lamp is in working condition (picture 8) and has a three way switch.

Theneck and wood base of the lamp are a rich tone wood, probably teak. On bothwood sections there is somemarking.The neck has the color sort of bleached out of it in two spots, one larger and one smaller (see picture 8,andthen picture 9for close up detail). The base has similar markings on the back, near where the cord enters thebase, although they are not quite so light.(see picture 6, and 7for detail). It looks like something might have spilled on these sections, but we can\'t say as this is as found condition. We think a refinish of the wood sections, and possibly a light staining, would eliminate these areas,but we can\'t be certain. We don\'t find them overly distracting when a shade is in place and due to the fact that the base staining is near back.

Due to these markings, we have priced this lamp as befitting a piece needing some restoration. Please note that this exact lamp is listed on a high end sale site for $2000, anda pair recently sold here on for$1450.00! .

The ceramic sections are in excellent condition with no cracks,chips ordamage. Thelamp retains what looks to be the original light brown cord andplug (picture 5).It has athin oatmeal coloredfelt covering on the underside (picture 4).

The lamp is unsigned, but this is not atypical for many Martz lamps, and there is no doubt from the shape, glaze and sgraffito that it is indeed Martz.

diameter of base: approx. 7inches

As with any vintage lighting, you may want to consider re-wiringthe lamp for safety.
