Before 1996 it was rare for Louis Vuitton to take on a collaborative project.That all changed when the art/fashion publication Visonaire came calling on the venerable luxury brand in 1996. What became of the partnership was Visonaire 18: Fashion Special, a special limited edition “bookzine” that featured exclusive prints from the collections of the world’s most innovative and influential fashion designers.The real surprise was the packaging: a deluxe monogrammed portfolio designed and produced specially for Visionaire by Louis Vuitton. The original issue price was set at $5,000 & by the time the official launch party was thrown at Mr. Chow\'s in New York City some three weeks after the issue appeared, all 2,500 copies had sold out. Demand was fueled by the opportunity to obtain the highly coveted Louis Vuitton/Visionaire leather portfolio. The original 2,500 lucky buyers realized the significance of this being the first time ever that Louis Vuitton had offered a product in a major collaboration with another company and the fact that production was strictly limited to 2,500 issues. This limited edition issue is offered by the original owner who purchased this item at the Rizzoli bookstore in NYC prior to the official Mr. Chow launch party. Each of the original 2,500 Louis Vuitton complete issues contained a separate Visonaire fashion portfolio numbered insert. The lucky 2,500 original buyers seized the opportunity to obtain the highly coveted Louis Vuitton/Visionaire leather portfolio and most held lesser regard for the numbered photographic insert sleeve, as is the case here, so it has no edition number. This item is in great condition with only a very faint water spot on the Visionaire stamped leather front emblem which you can see from the photos
