This is a lovely old decorative late 18th century pewter flat topped peg tankard standing 6.8 inches in height,6.4 inches front to back and 4.4 inches across the base.As shown the tankard has a very nicely decorated handle with the bottom part ending in a nice decorative shape.Inside the tankard has 4 pewter pegs.The pegs were used when the tankard was passed around the table and each drinker drank his pegs worth.I think it is a Norwegian tankard and it probably dates to the second half of the 1700s [ approx. 1770 -1780 ].The piece is in pretty decent condition [ looks like small old repair to inner base that also shows to outer base ] and has a nice colour and patina.This lovely old 18th century pewter peg tankard would grace any collection or sit very well in any period or contemporary setting.Thanks for viewing and please take a look in my shop for many more interesting old items.
