A substantial red-figure oinochoe decorated with a female head portrayed in profile.
The lady wears an ornate saccos leaving a bun projecting at rear, a spiked crown, a beaded necklace and long pendant earrings. The white details ‘gilded’ with light
ochre. The woman is facing what appears to be a torch. Her neck is flanked by volutes with emerging fan palmettes. Flowers in the field, a band of dotted ovolo above,
a wave pattern below. The style is related to the White Saccos-Kantharos Group, which was active towards the end of the 4th century BC.
Provenance: Ex-private Old English collection, thence English art market.
