Large Antique c1855 Fine Wool & Silk Woven Scottish Paisley Pattern Shawl:

This is an antique 1800s woven fine wool and silk paisley pattern very large shawl. I am not a textile expert so I am not sure if this shawl was made in Scotland or it could be from Kashmir. (Many thanks to a fellow er who has told me that the shawl is Scottish and probably dates around 1855.)

It measures approx. 10 feet 7\" by 5 feet 3\" (323cm by 160cm) and it features a very interesting cream centre flanked by a red and turquoise design. The rest of the shawl has a lovely paisley design of blues, reds, pinks, yellows, creams, etc.

Although it is not in perfect condition there are no tears and it does not appear to be faded as the colours are nice and bright. When held up to the light I can see some rather thin areas and there are several small holes. None of these faults are immediately noticeable when the shawl is laid flat. I have spotted a couple of small areas where the threads on the surface appear tosomewhat \'pulled\'. The fringing at both ends is in very good condition.
