Description:

I came across this amazing collection of 1890\'s Stereoscopic pictures at an Estate sale here in Northern Michigan. The ones that are dated are all in the 1880\'s and 1890\'s! They all appear to be in that era. The stereo viewer is made of wood and has a makers mark on front: AMERICAN LENS – STEREOSCOPE – TRADEMARK. There is a very old cloth case to hold the cards. The case is in rough shape and was probably hand made. I did not notice it until after I shot the pictures, but there are some holes in the bottom of the case and it looks like they used a folded newspaper for the base. I can see an 1890 date through one of the holes. There are 48 cards as pictured. There is a variety and include The Philadelphia Centennial 1887, a view of Pennsylvania Ave. looking from the US Treasury (all horse drawn carriages), Brighton Beach Coney Island, a panorama of the Bridges in Paris, Gallery d’ Apollon Louvre Paris France 1889, Soldiers Grave Arlington Va., Market Place Cologne Germany 1889, the love sick barber, the great Beer Garden of Berlin, The world’s fair from the railroad Chicago, Shakespeare’s birthplace in England 1891, a train in a steep canyon, East River and the Brooklyn Bridge with a side paddle steam boat called the Monticello, a beach picture with sailboats London, Mrs. Harrisons reception room in Washington DC, The Presidents Mansion (The White House) Washington DC, Wall Street, and The library in Shakespeare’s House in England and many, many more historic photographs. This collection is amazing! The concerns I see are the viewer itself is missing the handle and one rivet let go on the eye shield, an easy fix with a new rivet. Some cards have some fading but considering they are in the area of 125 years old, not bad! Also the cards have a light curve but don’t affect the viewing. This awesome set with historic pictures is one you won’t want to pass up! It\'s like looking back in History! Click on any picture to enlarge for more detail.
