A late 18thCentury antique brass Culpeper stylemicroscope
A fine example ofthe famous Culpeper-style microscope from the late 18thcentury. It is 11” tall, and featuresthe scroll-style body and stage supports typical on microscopes by Dollond ofLondon, and in fact bears a remarkable likeness to his instruments.
The microscope comes with oneoriginal lens. It retains much of its original lacquer showing typical wornbrush strokes. See the photos for cosmetic condition. Focus is a graduated drawtube and works perfectly with the lens considering the 200 year old age. Themicroscope has a sub-stage single-sided concave mirror with some silver wornoff but still usable. Accessories include an original lens, a bone slider withfull specimens, and a brass tweezer – all within a drawer inside the case. Themicroscope fits in its own wooden pyramidal case with accessory drawer. It israre to find a microscope of this age and type in such fine condition.
PLEASE NOTE: The microscope comeswith one original lens. I am including three other lenses with the microscopefor display purposes only. These three do not fit the thread of the microscopealthough they are only slightly off and could possibly be rethreaded to fit. Atany rate, their look is in keeping with the microscope so I am including themto augment the overall display of the microscope.
