Laurel Lighting Company was one of the most prestigious
makers of lamps in the mid century period. This reputation
was well deserved. The firm started in the forties producing
lamps for the highest end of the income spectrum.
The designers working for Laurel at this time produced
many lamps with a botanical theme.
By the fifties they kept refining their botanical
inspired designs and became strong proponents of
European modernism. Their offerings now included the finest
Danish walnut, Swedish linens and had shapes that
were often following nature - via the golden mean.
The golden mean is a mathematical ratio that has been
used by designers since the days of the Parthenon, to create
beauty in both art and architecture. Laurel Lamp
used the ratio to sculpt the curves in many of their lamps.
That\'s why a Laurel lamp is so beautiful - it literally has
nature\'s own mathematical formula incorporated into the designs!
This Laurel lamp is one of the most iconic of their table lamps.
It still has a subdued botanical theme - in this case a tulip.
Laurel designers loved the tulip and the way each petal
gracefully embraces the rest of the blossom.
This lamp conveys that same grace in brass and oiled walnut.
It\'s absolutely sensational! Mathematical grace forms
the various lines, curves and shapes that form this lamp.
With just a glance one can tell the finest materials were
used to create this magnificent mid century lamp!
Near mint condition. Some very light scratches to the brass.
Walnut has some very minor age wear.
Linen shade is fresh and has a perforated metal diffuser.
Works perfectly.
