A beautiful doll in her elegant hat from France, who was made for Bullocks Wilshire, the luxury branch of Bullock\'s Los Angeles, patronized by the glamorous film star society of the thirties, forties, and fifties . If only she could talk! She is a Rita doll (called Lucia in the US) The molding of her eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth are very fine and detailed. She has pale blue eyes with one highlight, shaded iris colouring and fine lashes; her pensive eyes look upward and only slightly sidewards. Her cheeks are delicately coloured. Her light blonde heavy braid of mohair is coiled at the base of her neck into a loose chignon.She wears a white blouse edged with simple handmade lace, over that a red bodice, over that a green laced vest trimmed with yellow felt rickrack, with red and beige ribbons twisted around her waist. Her skirt is of black felt and her large apron of purple silk has a border of the same beige ribbon with applique orange and yellow flowers alternating with green leaves. She wears white cotton pantalets and midcalf red felt boots with black feet.Her green felt hat from France is a charmer! A wide 3\" flaring brim is sewn onto a cap with pink, blue, and cerise flowers amid the lime green leaves framing her face and three cherries dangling to the side. It was probably meant to be worn straight, but it\'s almost impossible to resist trying out different angles.She has: double layered ears, zigzag seam on back of neck, felt head and ears, beautifully molded eyes and eyebrows, cloth torso, no front seam on legs so this must be flannel rather than felt but it is good quality and the arms are not wrinkled. disc joints at head shoulders and hips, coiled braided chignonTAGS and DATE: Square card Lenci tag with green printing on front and handwritten Rita 439 on back, also Bolzano Tirolo yellow edged parchment tag with flower and red letters on wrist; also thin Lenci Torino white tag with dark letters sewn to inside hem of skirt. The white tag with copper lettering sewn in the hat reads \"Made in France For\" (smaller block letters, \"Bullock\'s Wilshire\" (in large block letters).
Late 50\'s to 1960. (Shattered weighted silk suggests at least twenty years earlier; perhaps an older fabric was used.)CONDITION: Very Good Plus condition but see **apron**; hair thick, lovely face, nose perhaps a bit rubbed (not visible in jpg), arms and hands clean and unwrinkled, felt bodice, vest, skirt, boots, shoes, and apron border bright and completely undamaged, silk ribbons flat and just a bit frayed at ends; the cotton pantalets are bright white but the lace and cotton of blouse have darkened some. The hat with its dangling cherries is in beautiful shape. **Sadly, the purple silk of the apron is badly and irreversibly shattered, worse than it appears in the photos or at first glance. It could be stabilized with conservation grade net thus relieving the silk of the weight of the border. However, as I have been researching the doll, the apron silk has become worse, thus PRICE REDUCTION.*
