Original letter by Kermit Roosevelt (1889-1943), son of President Theodore Roosevelt, mailed January 23, 1943 while serving as a Major in the Army. Accompanied by the original envelope signed twice by Roosevelt. The letter, all written in his hand, is signed \"Kermit\" and was written to a childhood friend of the family, Colonel Fitzhugh Lee. At this time, Major Roosevelt was stationed in Alaska, though he writes \"We\'re not allowed to say where we are, or what we\'re doing or anything at all\", however he writes the letter on the back of a postcard featuring Eskimo boys carving ivory in Alaska. He writes about where he has been, having been sick twice, etc. Major Roosevelt committed suicide in Alaska less than six months later on June 4.
