Item Description:
This large old Hopi coiled basket has been beautifully woven. It stands 6 7/8\" high and measures approximately 9 1/2\" across. It is natural and vegetal dyed yucca woven around bundled grass. This type of coiled basket is traditionally woven on the Second Mesa of Hopi. There are some missing stitches - mostly on the rim and just a few scattered around the body of the basket. Also, there is some discoloration on the bottom of the basket with ultraviolet fade especially on the exterior of the basket. Overall, this is a wonderful example of traditional Hopi 2nd mesa basket weaving.
