Here the art rock functions as coloring to the pop songs, unlike onAbacabandDuke, where the reverse is true. Some of this may be covering their bets -- to ensure that the longtime fans didn\'t jump ship, they gave them a bit of art -- some of it may be that the band just couldn\'t leave prog behind, but the end result is the same: as of this record,Genesiswas now primarily a pop band. Anybody who paid attention to \"Misunderstanding\" and \"No Reply at All\" could tell that this was a good pop band, primarily thanks to the rapidly escalating confidence ofPhil Collins, butGenesisillustrates just how good they could be, by balancing such sleek, pulsating pop tunes as \"That\'s All\" with a newfound touch for aching ballads, as on \"Taking It All Too Hard.\" They still rocked -- \"Just a Job to Do\" has an almost nasty edge to its propulsion -- and they could still get too silly as on \"Illegal Alien,\" wherePhil\'s Speedy Gonzalez accident is an outright embarrassment (although in some ways it\'s not all that far removed from his Artful Dodger accent on the previous album\'s \"Who Dunnit?\"), and that\'s why the album doesn\'t quite gel. It has a little bit too much of everything -- too much pop, too much art, too much silliness -- so it doesn\'t pull together, but if taken individually, most of these moments are very strong, testaments to the increasing confidence and pop power of the trio, even if it\'s not quite what longtime fans might care to hear.Song Review by Ed Hogan Phil Collins wanted to write something bright and cheery to offset the melancholy tone of some of his other songs. He opted to do a dance number. He remember how much he listened to Prince\'s \"1999\" while he was on tour with Genesis. To work with him on the track, Collins contacted synth duo the System. The title \"Sussudio\" refers to the track\'s drum rolls, while the song\'s story line refers to a young man\'s fantasy about an older woman. Co-produced by Collins and Hugh Padgham, \"Sussudio\" went gold, going to number one pop, number eight R&B, and number 30 adult contemporary in the summer of 1985. It was the second consecutive number one pop single (the first being \"One More Night\" from his multi platinum album No Jacket Required). A \"Sussudio\"-like track, \"I Wanna Be Your Lover,\" can be found on the System\'s Rhythm and Romance album.
Tonight, Tonight, Tonight-To me this is a perfect song for a Friday night. Sure the lyrics are about scoring drugs, it was the 80\'s O.K., but you just want to sing along to the chorus so much. Probably, one of the more progressive moments on the Invisible Touch album with it\'s industrial type beat and it\'s instrumental break, it makes for a good stand-out and an even better single. However to me the instrumental break doesn\'t do a whole lot for me. I love Tony Banks\'s chord progression in the break, but it just isn\'t as good as say the instrumental section in Ababacab or Firth of Fifth. It just doesn\'t feel very structured to me. Other than that though, I really love the song.

Paperlate-An unexpected throwback to 1982 greets us after In The Glow of The Night. Many people might know this song because it was actually a minor hit single down here in the U.S.. However, amongst Genesis fans it is widely considered one of their worst moments. I think it\'s O.K., I mean it still sounds like Genesis even though a horn section is present. I also do like the arrangement of it all. The song has a very distinct sixties soul type sound to it, especially with the drumming.

Tonight, Tonight, Tonight (12\" Mix)-If you thought the album version was long, eight minutes by the way, then you are either in for a treat or a trip to hell, because this version is twelve minutes long. What\'s weird is I actually like this version. I think the instrumental break is much better structured on this version and the Friday night atmosphere is enhanced with the added drum machine parts. And I mean the chorus is still extremely sing alongish. Sing it with me, Tonight, Tonight, Tonight. Oh, oh. I\'m gonna make it right, Tonight, tonight, tonight. Oh, oh...
