a SOLID COPPER advertisingprinting block weighing ¾ lb. that advertises the “Ike Myers One Price Clothier” business

The block measures 2 ½” long x 15/16” x 15/16” and is quite heavy for something so small! (weighs roughly .34 kg or ¾ lb.) Unlike all of the other printing blocks we’vebeen offering, this one is solid- NO WOOD BACKING. I have included additional photos and a reverseimage of the block for ease in viewing. Icouldn’t find any information on this business, but as the block was part of alarge acquisition of copper printing blocks that had Indiana ties, we assumethis clothier was located in Indiana.

Photos 9-10:

an antique copper-on-wood printingblock featuring the signature in lavish script of former President of MarianBusiness College J.D. (Jay Dee) Brunner

The block measures 2 1/2\" x11/16\" and I have included a reverse image of the block for ease inviewing.

Mr. Brunner was born in Stratford, Canada onOctober 5, 1861. In 1893, Mr. Brunnermoved to Marion, Indiana and established the Marion Business College.

The college began its operations in the ColumbianBlock immediately after completion of the structure. Professor Brunner becamethe President and sole proprietor in 1896, conducting the institution with hiswife until 1902. Many prominent Marion businessmenfrom that time received their training under the instruction of Mr. and Mrs.Brunner. In 1902, Mr. Brunner and Mr. Charles C. Cring began work on a chain ofschools under the name “Indiana Business College” and eventually createdthirteen business colleges in Indiana.

It was quitefitting to have found this copper printing block amongst the large collectionof blocks we acquired that have ties to the Indiana and Marion BusinessColleges. If you are a graduate of oneof these schools, have a connection to J.D. Brunner or the Ike Myers family, orsimply like to collect old advertising blocks, then this combined sale isfor you!
