Ludwig II. was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death. He is sometimescalled the Swan King and “der Märchenkönig” - the Fairy tale King. He also heldthe titles of Count Palatine of the Rhine, Duke of Bavaria, Duke of Franconia,and Duke in Swabia. He succeeded to the throne aged only 18 and is famous for theconstruction of two lavish palaces and the fantastic Neuschwanstein Castle.
