Wonderful to be able to offer this splendid large linen tablecloth on . It measures approx 56\" overall, to include the 11.1/2\" deep hand crochet edge so a real beauty for special occasion entertaining, or indeed simply for display.
This magnificent tablecloth is classic in design, being in smooth linen with a fine line of drawn threadwork around the hem edge. The incredible 11\"+ crochet edge is hand worked in sturdy thread with a Mary Card pattern design which I believe is called \'Rosebuds\' and is from the early 1900\'s.
Mary Card was an Australian who revolutionised crochet patterns and many were printed as booklets or appeared in magazines. She was born in 1861 in Australia but lived in the United States for a period of time, then in the UK for many years as a very successful crochet pattern designer before returning home to Australia where she died in 1940.
Her work is highly collected because of the unusual nature of her designs, some of which are quite complex to work but a joy to own. This edge with its pattern of large roses, leaves and rosebuds is no exception, the cloth being in excellent laundered condition. It appears a bit grey in some of the photographs but it is actually sparkling white.
