1969 MARDI GRAS KREWE OF IRIS ALUMINUM BLUE COIN DOUBLOON.Onone side is the Krewe’s queen emblem and the words “MARDI GRAS IN NEW ORLEANS”and “KREWE OF IRIS”. On the other side of the doubloon is a woman posing withplaying cards and dice along with the words “LAS VEGAS” and the words ‘KREWE OFIRIS” and the date “1969”. It is in very good condition with only a few faint scratches and some light wear around the edge of the doubloon in a couple of places.

Iunderstand that the Krewe of Iris, established in 1917, is the oldest and oneof the largest female Carnival organizations for women. It is celebrating its100th anniversary this year. It takes its name from Iris, thegoddess of the rainbow and the messenger of the gods in classical Greekmythology.

I located thisdoubloon in the inside pocket of a vintage suitcase that I purchased at ansale in Gulfport, Mississippi about two weeks ago.
