Matisse/renoir Rare Copper & Cabochon Enamel Clamper Bracelet, Book Piece:
This gracefully wrought gleaming copper and rich orange enamel clamper bracelet is from a fabulous collection of a prominent mid century modern Connecticut architect’s estate. This particular piece, which is signed by both Matisse and Renoir, is distinctive for its bold, lyrical copper wired swirl design, accented by six vividly enameled elliptical cabochons that resemble stylized floral sprigs. The clamper, which is in quite good vintage condition, measures a dramatic 3” high in the front, tapering to about 7/8” in the back, at the hinge; each of the six elliptical sprigs is ¾” high by 3/16” wide. The bracelet measures about 7” around, with plenty of room for adjustment with its open-ended design. The piece, which is rather rare, appears on page 116 of the Copper Art book by Burkholz & Kaplan.
