MAUCHLINE SYCAMORE FERN WARE NEEDLE CASE - SCOTTISH 19TH CENTURY BOX WORK :
$26.23

For your consideration and for sale I offer a MAUCHLINE FERNWARE
NEEDLE CASE.

This cylindrical container has a capped inner compartment and I\'m guessing that it is a needle case with the inner compartment for the smaller needles.

The production of box-work or Mauchline ware took place from the 1820s until 1933.

Fernware was introduced in the 1870s. This involved applying actual ferns to the wood which was then stippled in dark brown, the ferns removed and the wood varnished. The wood used was sycamore.

These products were sent all over the world.

A fire in 1933 stopped production, which was never restarted.

This fernware cylindrical container stands at a height of 2.2 inches (5.5cm), has green paper to the base and a small loss of varnish to the top of the case otherwise in good condition.

I shall leave the images to complete my description and welcome all questions. All that remains is to thank you for your interest and invite you to take a peek at my other items.
Postage to the EU will be £6.49 (Royal Mail International Signed service).
