Greetings from Massachusetts Antiques!For your consideration:A Superb Mid Century Impressionism Oil Painting of a New England? Forest in Autumn complete with a Rustic CottageLarge 36\" x 24\" oil on canvas.(c1960s to 1970s). Medium is oil on canvas. A very well done dream-like Impressionist landscape painting depicting what looks to be a New England forest scene complete with trees, foliage and a cottage; walking to the left of the cottage is a man or farmer in a straw hat carrying a bail of wheat or straw. Rich, warm and inviting colors; VERY thick paint; in fact the grooves in mud path can be not only seen but felt!Signed \'Percy\' in the bottom right hand corner. In my research I was able to reference similar paintings with the same \'Percy\' signature selling at various sales for $200 to $500.In Good overall condition with moderate wear/soiling/yellowing. You can see that this piece was once framed for there is a lighter toned boarder all the way around the edge of the painting (most noticeable in the blue sky). The painting shows yellowing in the remaining area that was not protected by the frame edge. Probably was in a smokers home however there is no smell or odor coming from the piece whatsoever. Fortunately, the yellowing does not affect the painting as much for the color scheme is primarily browns, oranges, yellows and reds which hide it very well. A few small chips and a small dimple in the canvas in the middle (see photos); no holes or perforations. Can be restored if desired but still displays quite brilliantly. Moderate soiling/dust to the backside.Large painting measures 36\" x 24\".Overall, a very nicely done impressionist oil painting with superb, rich color and very thick paint!
