Description: A truly stunning 18thcentury silver nutmeg grater by the finest box makers of the period. \'Navette\'shape, with the most wonderful blank and un-engraved cartouche on the lidbordered by an engraved starburst, opening to reveal the original steel grater,beneath which is the compartment for storing the nutmeg opening from theunderside. The top lid with a characteristic stand away hinge, and the bottom lidwith a simply diving flush mounted \'invisible\' hinge. The finest box typenutmeg grater I have seen, it is aesthetically pleasing, superbly engineeredand very tactile.

Condition: In fabulous antiquecondition, with no repair and only minimal wear. There are three minisculedents to the body and a tiny scratch to the lower lid, which I mention only inthe interest of scrupulous accuracy. The marks are all very good except for themaker\'s mark on the top lid, which is rubbed.
