MAGNIFICENT GEORGIAN SILVER ‘BOMBE’ TEA CADDY BY EDWARD ALDRIDGE LONDON 1766 :
$2623.01
This very beautiful tea caddy was made in London in 1766 by the great silversmith Edward Aldridge (1739 -1778). It is of ‘bombe’ rectangular shape decorated with intricate repousse scrolling foliage with gadrooned borders and stands on on four scrolling feet. It has a ‘push on ‘ lid and the interior of the body and the lid are both richly gilded. It is stamped “London 1766 EA”.
It measures 6¾” (17cms) tall and the flat base measures 3 ½” ( 9cms`) x 2 ¾”(7cms). It weighs 294gms before packing.
Condition
This wonderful antique piece is in remarkable order for its nearly 250 years. It has no repairs, holes or dents. It is a fine and very rare collector’s piece for the discerning lover of Georgian silver. I have added plenty of photographs.
Postage
Postal charges are based on the weight of the tea caddy fully packed and fully insured. I always, as a matter of policy, use a ‘signed for’ and ‘tracked’ postal option and insure for the full value. These valuable pieces require good packaging and plenty of it to keep them safe and secure. I pack most carefully in tough new packaging for which I make no charge. I have also learned that with fragile or precious items, it is safer and more prudent to pack in a comparatively large box.
I aim to keep the postage as low as possible, commensurate with the demands of safety and security and I always return any postage inadvertently overcharged, as will be clear from my response.
I am happy to accept Paypal and will accept personal cheques, but because of the expense, complexities and delays in the UK in the processing of foreign currency cheques I have reluctantly had to stipulate ‘Sterling only’ for these. Very sorry!
