We are offering for sale a truly magnificentlate Victorian silverpunch bowl.

The punch bowlwas made by Elkington & Company and is of thevery highest quality and has an incredible weight.It isdecoratedwith an applied, wide grape and vine band around the top and applied acanthusleaves rising up from the round base. The interior is gilded (gold-wash) and hasa terrific heavy feel - it weighs just shy of 100oz!

The punch bowl is over 12\" wide and can hold 7 litres (1.5gallons!!) of drink. Superb condition throughout with zero issues to note.

As you can see from the inscription, the bowl was originally presented withtwo huge toasting goblets. We have kept these goblets in stock (see photosbelow), in case the buyer of this punch bowl wishes to also buy them and sokeep the suite complete. THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE PUNCHBOWL.

The suitewas presented to Lord Foley and his bride as a wedding gift in 1899. Each piecebears a badge of the Foley family coat-of-arms supported by two lions and withthe motto \"Ut Prosim\" (translates \"That I May Serve\"). Thepresentation inscription to the bowl reads:

\"Presented with two silver goblets to theRight Honourable Henry Thomas, Lord Foley. By the vicar and parishioners ofClaygate, Surrey on the occasion of his marriage with Miss Evelyne VaughanRadford. 25th October 1899\".

HenryThomas Foley was the 5th Baron Foley and was a British peer. He was born in1850 and died in 1905. Lord Foley lived at Ruxley Towers in Claygate Surrey.
